Great Progress on the Bridge Design – Your Comments are needed!

The Rideau Canal Crossing Progress Update is LIVE!

Thank you for your ongoing participation in the City of Ottawa’s Rideau Canal Crossing Environmental Assessment study. This study was initiated in March 2011 to identify a recommended plan for improving multi-use (pedestrian/cycling) linkages over the Rideau Canal between the Pretoria and Bank Street Bridges.

We’d like to share the progress we’ve made since the second Public Open House last November. Please review the report by clicking here Progress Update and Design Consultation and let us know what you think by May 30, 2012.

For further details and to respond to a survey please visit: http://www.ottawa.ca/en/city_hall/planningprojectsreports/public_consult/rideau_canal_bridge/progress/index.htm

Thank you! Your involvement is essential to the planning and design process.

What we heard

We received a number of comments following our first Public Open House in June. The attached graphic summarizes some of the key themes that were voiced by project stakeholders. Although the graphic illustrates a selection of the input received, all comments will be anonymously documented in the final Environmental Assessment report and will continue to be taken into consideration as the study progresses.

The Study
The City of Ottawa is undertaking an environmental assessment (EA)
study to identify a recommended plan for improving multi-use (pedestrian/
cycling) linkages over the Rideau Canal between the Pretoria and Bank

by promoting active transportation through enhanced pedestrian and
cycling connectivity. This study is being planned under Schedule “C” of the
Municipal Class Environmental Assessment.

At this Open House, interested members of the public
will have an opportunity to:

  • Review the evaluation of crossing location alternatives
  • Review and comment on proposed design concepts for the crossing
  • Ask questions and discuss the project with members of the study team

If you are not available to attend the meeting or would like additional information, please visit the project webpage at: ottawa.ca/rideaucanalbridge
